Turning Point Youth Centre hosting live music fundraiser

Nov 19, 2021 | 6:00 AM

For the first time since the COVID-19 outbreak, the Turning Point Youth Centre is hosting an in-person fundraising event.

On Dec. 4, the non-profit is opening its doors for Turn Fest. The gathering features a lineup of musical performances from local acts, including The Broken Lips, T.M.M.E and special guests, complete with a coffeehouse and baked goods.

In an interview with meadowlakeNOW, Executive Director Belinda Martin said she is eager for the day of the event to arrive.

She added she needed to be creative throughout the more restricted period of the public health crisis in order to raise funds and community interest, so the return of an in-person event comes as a relief.

“I’m excited that we can finally do something like this in person again,” she said.

“It was definitely different planning an in-person fundraiser during a pandemic than it was before the pandemic, but like I said, I’m just thankful that we can make it happen.”

The gathering will help the youth centre raise funding for operations to continue throughout the remainder of the year and into the early portion of 2022.

Admission is set at $20 for guests over the age of 18, and younger attendees will be welcomed for a smaller fee of $15.

Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test is required to attend, and masking will be required when indoors as per provincial guidelines.

Doors open half an hour before the first act hits the stage at 7 p.m.

Martin added those in attendance are granted permission to enjoy the amenities inside of the youth centre between musical performances.

“They can play pool, play video games, just kind of hang out and visit with other people,” she said. “There’s a few fun things to do during intermissions and stuff, but the main event will obviously be the music.”

Tickets for the event can be purchased at the door on the day of the event.

Visitors are advised to bring cash as there will not be any way to complete debit or credit transactions.
