Perogies don’t pair well with 911 calls: RCMP

Jan 9, 2019 | 1:24 PM

Everyone knows you don’t mess with perogies in Saskatchewan, but a 911 call about the Ukrainian dish might be in poor taste

Saskatchewan RCMP tweeted its 2018 top 10 examples of “what-were-you-thinking emergency” calls to 911.

The perogy phone call plea placed five out of 10, apparently arising from a dispute over cooking methods for the dish.

Other hungry and upset callers reported a guest cooking ribs in their oven, someone stealing their Thanksgiving turkey and to complain that their fast food delivery was taking too long.

Another caller, ranked at number 1, saw two salamanders in their yard. Alarmed, they called the emergency number over whether the amphibious creatures are endangered.

The fourth caller on the list thought a donkey in their field was being a bit of an ass since it was chasing two horses around.

Calls ranked six and seven related to pets, with one man wondering who called 911 from his house and eventually deciding that his cat did it. Another called the emergency line because their dogs needed to be let out but the door was stuck.

The police service ended its thread with a final tweet, reminding the public that 911 is for real emergencies. In non-emergency situations, the public can call their local RCMP detachment or local police service.
