Input sought from library users

Dec 6, 2018 | 8:00 AM

As the province gets set to turn the page on another year, the provincial government wants to take a look at how libraries in the province are being run and more importantly find out if there is room for efficiency.

According to information provided to paNOW from the Ministry of Education, a report based on feedback from the province’s 11 regional and municipal library boards, will be submitted to Minister Gordon Wyant early in the New Year. Ministry spokesperson Chris Hodges said there are no plans for any service cuts or library closures.

“The government has no preconceived agenda for any specific outcomes,” he said. “It is too early to speculate on any next steps following the public input process.”

A series of public library engagement sessions have been running the past few months. Some library boards, including the one at John M. Cuelenaere Public Libary (JMCPL) in Prince Albert, have been surveying their own members, in order to bring the requested input forward for the government’s report.
