Pettis misses weight, will still fight at UFC 206 but can’t win interim title
TORONTO — Anthony (Showtime) Pettis missed weight Friday ahead of UFC 206, a move that will cost him money and opportunity.
While the main event fight with Max (Blessed) Holloway will go on Saturday night at the Air Canada Centre, Pettis has lost his chance at the UFC interim featherweight title if he wins. And whatever happens he has to forfeit 20 per cent of his purse to Holloway.
Holloway, ranked No. 2 among featherweight contenders, will collect the interim title with a win at the Air Canada Centre — and a shot at 145-pound title-holder Jose Aldo in 2017 to decide the undisputed champion.
Holloway (16-3-0) has won his last nine fights since dropping a decision to Conor McGregor in August 2013.
