Chuckwagons set to tear up M.L. track

Aug 5, 2016 | 6:00 AM

It’s race time again in Meadow Lake this weekend as chuckwagons take over the Meadow Lake Stampede Grounds.

The Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Association (CPCA) tour makes its stop in Meadow Lake from Friday, Aug. 5 to Sunday Aug. 7 for the Meadow Lake Lions International.

President of the Meadow Lake Lions Club Gary Stabbler said the races continue as a Meadow Lake tradition to raise funds for Lions community projects.

“For us it’s continuing the event that’s been going on here for a great many years. This is our fifteenth year of doing it and for us it’s another opportunity to help serve our community and raise some funds so we can give it all away,” he said.

Stabbler said Meadow Lake is a city full of fans who pack the Stampede Grounds each and every year to see the chucks race around the track.

“We have a tremendous amount of die-hard fans and the stands are full every weekend, every year,” Stabbler said.

The heats begin on Friday and Saturday at 6:30 p.m., while Sunday’s heats start at 2 p.m.
