Meadow Lake principal awarded as outstanding

Jan 29, 2016 | 10:38 AM

A Meadow Lake educator is on her way to Toronto after being recognized as one of the best in her field.

Lakeview Elementary School Principal Dawn Paylor was selected as one of Canada’s Outstanding Principals, an annual awards event to recognize public school educators. Paylor’s nomination was supported by several references from parents, colleagues and members of the community.

“I’m truly blessed with an amazing staff,” Paylor said in an interview. “They are very supportive, I’ve got many leaders on staff in the area of early childhood and the teaching of reading, First Nations, Inuit, and Metis education.”

Paylor has helped create initiatives like the Response to Intervention program where teachers and administrators developed a three-tiered system to meet the learning and behavioural needs of students in the classroom.

Paylor and fellow Saskatchewan principal Tim Taylor will be awarded at a gala on Feb. 23 in Toronto. The winners will also benefit from an exclusive, five day executive leadership training program held at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

The training program is something Paylor is looking forward to and hopes to find inspiration for things to implement in Meadow Lake.

“(I’m looking forward to) listening to the experts that will be providing our professional development throughout the week, but on top of that I’ll be able to have conversations with administrators from across the country,” she said.

The program will introduce Paylor and the other winners to practices presented by businesses, government and education leaders as well as Rotman instructors.

Paylor will be making a national television appearance on Feb. 24 on CTV’s Canada AM.
