The province is expecting some nasty weather this weekend.

A special weather statement was issued for all of central and southern Saskatchewan on Friday afternoon.

Environment Canada meteorologist Shannon Moodie said Saskatchewan will see a variety of conditions due to a system moving in from Northern Alberta.

“Ahead of that system, southwest Saskatchewan’s going to see above-zero temperatures but also some gusty winds with that,” Moodie said.

“But as that system moves closer this evening, you’re going to see some snow and with that, a risk of freezing-rain.”

Moodie said the eastern part of the province could see about 10 centimetres of snow.

Most of the messy weather will be seen on Sunday as a cold front moves through, with low temperatures, blowing snow and reduced visibility.

“You’re going to see significant wind gusts in the north around 70 or 80 (kilometres per hour). And in the south you’re going to get into some 90 (km/h) wind gusts,” Moodie said.
