Meadow Lake RCMP plan town hall meeting

Nov 1, 2018 | 4:56 PM

Meadow Lake area residents will have an opportunity to air any concerns they have related to crime at an upcoming RCMP town hall meeting.

The event will take place at the Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church hall at 504 Third Ave. E. in Meadow Lake at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7

Mounties plan to discuss local policing priorities as well as public safety when they meet with the community. They will then open up the forum for questions from residents. The meeting will be a follow up to the prior town hall meeting on March 7.

“At our initial town hall meeting we discussed our detachment priorities for the year, which are crime prevention, crime reduction and road safety, and relationships with Indigenous communities,” Staff Sgt. Tim Sartison said.

The team giving the next presentation will also talk about the new marijuana legislation and its effect on policing.

Sartison said they will also discuss some of the RCMP’s recent successes with drug enforcement, and give an update on gang activity issues as well.

“We definitely see the value in having (the town hall meeting),” Sartison said. ”It’s imortant to have a meeting and also follow up to provide citizens with an update as to where we are at with our policing.

“I certainly hope to have as many in attendance if not more, and hopefully have some really positive discussions.”
