Mother of slain Montreal student remembers her 10 years after shooting
MONTREAL — As Louise Hevey De Sousa stood outside the junior college where her daughter was murdered and 16 other people injured by a gunman 10 years ago, she talked about what she missed most about Anastasia.
“Her laughter, her constant stories,” De Sousa said Tuesday, moments after she and other family members had released monarch butterflies into the air in memory of the victims.
Dawson College hosted an outdoor ceremony attended by more than 200 people on the school’s grounds in downtown Montreal to commemorate the anniversary of the shooting on Sept. 13, 2006.
Anastasia “always had something to tell us,” De Sousa said. “She was a normal young adult teenager. She defied us, didn’t listen to us. She did what all our kids do. (I miss) just having her around the table, just listening to the stories.”
