CIS Roundup: Marauders down Varsity Blues 32-5 to improve to 2-0

HAMILTON — Asher Hastings tossed a touchdown to go with 346 yards as the McMaster Marauders downed the Toronto Varsity Blues 32-5 at Tim Hortons Field on Monday.

Dan Vandervoort pulled down five catches for 119 yards to go with a single touchdown for McMaster (2-0). Chris Pezzetta was the game’s top rusher, driving for 117 yards on 18 handoffs.

Rahul Madan hauled in 12 receptions for 154 yards in the loss for the Varsity Blues (0-2). Marcus Hobbs finished 22 for 38 with 288 yards and one interception.

The Marauders defensive unit had a strong afternoon. Robbie Yochim led the stat sheet with 7 1/2 tackles and an interception. Keldyn Ahlstedt had a blocked field goal, while on the same play, Ben Megarry returned a fumble for a touchdown.

McMaster kicker Adam Preocanin converted a career-high six field goals in his second start.

Toronto’s points came on a conceded safety by McMaster and a 32-yard field goal by Ryan Grandell.

WINDSOR, Ont. — Running back Tarrence Crawford rushed for 122 yards and one touchdown to lead the Lancers (1-1) over Guelph (1-1).

WATERLOO, Ont. — Derek Wendel threw for 389 yards and five touchdowns and Victor Twynstra had 110 rushing yards and another score as Ottawa (1-0) thrashed the Warriors (0-2).

WATERLOO, Ont. — Eric Guiltinan ran for 180 yards and two touchdowns, and Laurier (2-0) had over 500 total yards of rushing and six touchdowns on the ground en route to hammering York (1-1).
